Business Administration

The Business Administration (General Business) major is designed for students who have a keen interest in learning the skills necessary to succeed in business. Students are provided a broad overview and cross-section of functional business knowledge and skills. No matter what industry is pursued students shall be prepared with core business skills beneficial to advancement in their careers.

The Business Administration major has a progressive and relative course design, which enables students to learn key areas within an organization and provides a broad search of career opportunities upon graduation.

Classes such as accounting, statistics, management, marketing, and finance, among others, will prepare students for the essential areas within a business. Given the wide range of career goals and industries a student may pursue upon graduation, a degree in general business will prepare him or her for the next step.

The major guide sheets can be used a reference when selecting classes. These guide sheets are not used by the Registrars office to confer degrees.

MINOR and A four + 1 Bachelors degree/Master of Business Administration degree

A minor in Business Administration is available for non-business majors only. Business majors include all degrees offered through the Davis College of Business, along with the BBA in Sustainability and the BA/BS in Sustainability with a Concentration in Business and Economics. 

This minor would satisfy the prerequisite requirements for the Four + 1 Bachelors /Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree if completed with a 3.0 GPA.

The Business Administration minor requires 15 credit hours as follows:

 * A four + 1 Bachelors degree/Master of Business Administration degree is offered through the Davis College of Business. The Business Administration minor can be used by highly-motivated JU students with interest in any undergraduate major who at least have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 to enter the Master of Business Administration degree which is offered through the Davis College of Business.

Career Opportunities

The Business Administration major is a versatile credential to launch a career in any industry, from music to manufacturing or construction to consulting.  Business Administration graduates bring multiple areas of knowledge and critical thinking abilities to the table, giving them the tools to take on administrative and managerial roles.  The general business program at JU provides the foundations for entry-level management positions in a broad range of industries and careers both in the public and private sector domains.

Jacksonville University business graduates have gone on to successful careers in a variety of areas, both in the public and private sector domains. Several key executives and upper-management positions are now being performed by Davis College of Business graduates. Some of their employers include Merrill Lynch-Financial Data Services, CSX, Florida Blue, Georgia Pacific Corporation, LPS, Prudential Insurance Company of America, The State Farm Companies Foundation, and United Parcel Service. This degree is also a good preparation for an MBA program or other advanced study in business.​
