The economics program combines the study of economic theory with a broad introductory look at the business field. The program offers a practical business focus shared by all programs in the Davis College of Business. Also, the program adds soft skills, such as teamwork and problem solving through classes in ethics, communication, and leadership. The combination of these classes and educational experiences makes the Jacksonville University economics degree like no other.

Our economics students go far beyond studying supply and demand curves. The students are cultivated to have strong analytical skills and experiences using statistical analysis software. They study economic theory and learn how to apply those theories. Also, students are asked to analyze and solve relevant business problems. The goal of the program is to learn how economics affects our whole world – from government and public policy to banking, private industry, politics and labor relations.

Career Opportunities

The economics program at JU is designed to prepare the student for both research and management careers in business and government.  Economists study the production and distribution of resources, goods, and services by collecting and analyzing data, researching trends, and evaluating economic issues.  Economics majors are successful in a wide variety of careers and market opportunities.  Although various roles in businesses are most common, economics majors are successful in law, medicine, government, non-profits, and international relations, as well as in academic roles.

The College of Business offers internship opportunities for students in all major areas of study, including economics. Internships allow students to expand their education and skills, receive exposure to real-life experiences, and enhance their career opportunities while earning academic credits. More than 50 local and/or national organizations sponsor internships for College of Business students.
