Undergraduate Dance Program

The Dance Department at Jacksonville University is dedicated to providing excellent programs of study in dance with the infusion of a strong liberal arts education. Dance training includes ballet, modern and jazz dance techniques, creative compositional projects, historical and theoretical thinking, multi-performance opportunities and aesthetics taught by an outstanding faculty with both professional and academic credentials.

Guest Residencies and Masterclasses are a strong part of the dance program allowing students to work with professional dance artists on a day-to-day basis. Past Guest Artists include: Stephanie Martinez, Jennifer Archibald, Brian and Scott Nicholson, Robert Moses, Jennifer Muller, Ronan Koresh, Val Caniparoli, American Ballet Theater II, Elisa Monte Dance and Teneise Ellis.

Admissions Requirements

All prospective dance majors are required to audition during one of Jacksonville University’s scheduled audition days. Built into the scheduled events is a review evaluated by the current faculty.The audition will consist of a short ballet barre, ballet center combination, a modern technique section and an improvisation exercise to show creative and analytical skills. Faculty will assess the current level of technique and potential to earn a degree within the dance program. Attire for this audition should be neat, clean, and allow for clear observation. Hair should be secured off the face and no large jewelry.
